  • Symptoms may be the iMac does not turn on at all or turns on once in awhile after spamming the power button.

Solutions

  • Recap the power supply

Disassembly Notes

I recommend following a guide from online like iFixit. One tip is if the hard drive/dvd drive unit doesn’t come out, unscrew the DVD drive and slide it back and they should both slide out easily.

Original Parts

iMac G4 20" Power Supply

Important Note: I did not record the capacitor locations on the power supply, I also did not replace them all, but have their values and sizes, so please confirm where each capacitor goes when you are replacing yours. So take note what value of capacitor goes where when you are removing them.

Capacitor Specifications and Footprint Information
Qty Capacitance Voltage Diameter/Size Height
2 2700 µF 16 0.5" 1.1"
1 1000 µF 25 0.256" 0.48"
1 560 µF 50 0.514" 0.972"
1 120 µF 50 0.32" 0.637"
1 1000 µF 16 0.32" 0.755"

Replacement Parts

iMac G4 20" Power Supply

Capacitor replacements are in the same order here as the originals above.

Capacitors
Qty Compatible Part Number Order Links
2 EEU-FK1C272 DigiKey Mouser
1 25ZLS1000MEFC10X20 DigiKey
1 50ZLH560MEFC12.5X25 DigiKey
1 50ZLJ120M8X16 DigiKey
1 16ZLJ1000MCE10X16 DigiKey

If parts are not available or different selection is preferred, you can use the values in the Original Parts section to perform a parametric search.
