This device is in the WorkNeeded:OriginalParts category because it was flagged as missing information on the original parts. It may have replacement parts listed but those cannot be assumed to be identical to the originals. Sony PS-Q3 is one of the miniature Sony record players, the cheapest model of the 3 (others being the PS-Q5 and PS-Q7). The PS-Q3 is a belt driven, fully automatic device.
Known Issues
Symptom or Problem Encountered
Turntable not moving, arm not moving.
Capacitors are quality brand and before the capacitor plauge, so it is unlikely they leak. My device has a speed problem, and I decided to order capacitors before starting desoldering parts to find the issue.
Causes
- Main belt turns into goo
- Arm belt dries out
Solutions
- Replace all belts
Disassembly Notes
Be careful with the screws, they screw into plastic and they can get brittle. Follow the arrows on the unit otherwise, just as with any Sony device. After removing the screws, the top shell comes off. Make sure to remove the cartridge first to give it enough room.

Belts
Exact original belt sizes are either unknown (main belts) or impossible to source (arm belt). These are the ones I managed to source easily, the main belts are from a local shop who supply them based on inner circumference, the arm belt is from ebay found as "D13".
Belt | Cross section | Diameter | Inner Circumference | Width | Note |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Main, short | Square | 30 mm | 1.6 mm | Perfect fit | |
Main, long | Square | 83 mm | 1.2 mm | Should be thicker, maybe shorter | |
Arm | Square | D13 | 20 mm | 1.5 mm | Should be thinner, maybe shorter |
