WF does not implement Echo notifications, and I doubt it will for a long time. With not that much more effort in the long-run, we can implement our own similar forum-style central discussion area with StructuredDiscussions/Flow.
===Idea===
This is a mockup for a possible [[Special:WikiForum|WikiForum]] replacement that would utilise [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:StructuredDiscussions StructuredDiscussions]. This board list would be on some page only editable by administrators, perhaps under a <code>Board:</code> namespace (<code>Board:Directory perhaps?</code>). Each page linked on here will also be in that <code>Board:</code> namespace, and SD will be enabled on all of them through [[Special:EnableStructuredDiscussions|EnableStructuredDiscussions]] (won't show up unless SD is added). This still allows for a central place of discussion, but since the boards aren't under special pages, it's a lot less hassle to manage.

Rationale

WF does not implement Echo notifications, and I doubt it will for a long time. With not that much more effort in the long-run, we can implement our own similar forum-style central discussion area with StructuredDiscussions/Flow.

Idea

This is a mockup for a possible WikiForum replacement that would utilise StructuredDiscussions. This board list would be on some page only editable by administrators, perhaps under a Board: namespace (Board:Directory perhaps?). Each page linked on here will also be in that Board: namespace, and SD will be enabled on all of them through EnableStructuredDiscussions (won't show up unless SD is added). This still allows for a central place of discussion, but since the boards aren't under special pages, it's a lot less hassle to manage.
