Nichicon Corporation is a Japanese company established in about 1950 [1] that makes Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors, Supercapacitors (Electric Double Layer Capacitors), Aluminum Polymer Capacitors, Film Capacitors, Thermistors, Lithium Ion Batteries, Power Supplies, and Electronic Modules. [2]

Nichicon is known for its audio capacitors.

Failures/Capacitor Plague

Nichicon HM and HN capacitors from around 2000-2010 are known to fail. These capacitors fail due to the special Ultra Low ESR electrolyte that did not contain the necessary preservatives.

Nichicon PL capacitors are known to leak electrolytic fluid from the bottom, corroding the capacitor leads and the circuit board.
