| === Investigation Round 1 ===
| |
| I don't specifically need caps for this, parts were knocked loose but the video card may be bad. | |
| | |
| | |
| Power supply had broken solder joints in it on molex power connector and a large transformer.
| |
| | |
| === Investigation Round 2 ===
| |
| Video card is not outputting sync signals. CRTC chip is but signal gets held up in SN74S374 . Chip may be bad. Output filter disconnected as part of troubleshooting.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Initially the computer would not turn on, after seemingly changing nothing it came back. There may be more bad solder joints in the PSU. There was no significant ripple on the voltage rails.
| |
| | |
| | |
| Video card can be disabled by pulling another chip and jumpering some of its pad, but the chip is not socketed. If the BIOS was a newer revision it may be possible to disable the video with motherboard jumpers. Then a CGA, MDA, EGA card could be put in for further evaluation of the rest of the system in the short term.

| | |
| | |
| Requirements for further investigation:
| |
| | |
| * sn74S374n 20 pin DIP(Need to confirm that chip from schematic)
| |
| * 20 pin socket - socket 11C
| |
| * 14 pin socket - socket 3G/the video disable option
| |
| * ROMs that can be burned to upgrade to a newer BIOS revision

About
I am someone tired of not having a good text medium to share repair information. So I decided to start Caps Wiki as a solution to this problem. A central location where information about repairing devices can be cataloged and easily referenced by anyone.
