Known Issues
Faulty Power Connector
Causes
- Unknown, however most likely caused by yanking on the power cable to unplug it.
Solutions
- Replacing the Socket.
No video, unit appears to be functioning otherwise
Causes
- There is a capacitor along the video circuit that tends to fail and disrupts the composite signal.
Solutions
- Confirm diagnosis by bridging cap pads to test. Video should function. Replace capacitor C551, 220uF SMD cap.
Disk does not spin, video stuck on Sony Computer Entertainment logo.
Causes
- The disk drive is not getting power, usually caused by damage from disk swapping.
Solutions
- Fuse PS601 is most likely blown, located above the power button. Replace with IC Link part number 1-576-123-21 for boards with prefix -11 to -61, Micro fuse part number 1-576-611-21 on boards with -71 prefix. Bridging the pads can be a temporary fix though is not recommended since PS601 protects the motor controller from damage.
Disassembly Notes
Just a six Philips Head Screws on the bottom case hold everything together, including the Motherboard. (One Screw however is under a Warranty Sticker)
