Known Issues
Motherboard cracked
Causes
- There is a plastic standoff in the base of the unit that is supposed to support the motherboard. It puts pressure on the centre of the motherboard, which can cause it to crack.
Solutions
- Repair all broken traces, or replace motherboard. To prevent it happening, the support can be filed down or removed.
No power
Causes
- The system uses a 7805 regulator to generate 5V internally. This regulator can fail.
Solutions
- Replace regulator. Note that the original 7805 has longer legs than most modern ones, and due to the position of the mounting hole in the heatsink the modern ones will only just touch the PCB.
Disassembly Notes
The bolts have Gamebit heads. An E6 internal Torx driver can open them if you are careful.
