Note that there are two versions of the AES, as well as several motherboard revisions. The basic types are 5V and 9V. The 5V models require a centre positive 5V supply, and while they have over-voltage protection can still be damaged. The 9V versions require a centre positive 9V supply, and have an internal regulator that generates 5V. Most (all?) motherboards can be either type, can be changed over by removing and adding components.

Graphical glitches
Causes
- Low voltage on power rails.
Solutions
- Damaged power supply.
- 5V over-voltage protection circuit failure (5V models).
- Damaged switch mode regulator (9V models).
Solid colour screen
Causes
- BIOS checks failed at power on.
Solutions
- Blue screen - all checks OK, cartridge not inserted/faulty.
- Red screen - work RAM error.
- Green screen - palette RAM error.
- Yellow screen - video RAM error.
- Magenta screen - BIOS self check error (i.e. checksum).
- Cyan screen - memory card error.

Disassembly Notes
Some screws are under the stick-on feet. The screws holding the memory slot in need to be removed to lift the motherboard out.
