This device is in the WorkNeeded:ReplacementParts category because it was flagged as missing information on replacement parts. If it has the original parts listed you may be able to search for replacements using the parametric searches available from parts distributors. If you have or make a list of replacement parts, please feel free to add them by copying the relevant table from EditorsToolbox:Tables
Casio Loopy
Preliminary Information
Release Year 1995
Leak Risk Medium
Batteries None
Mounting Technology Through Hole, SMD
Capacitor Types Electrolytic, Aluminum Electrolytic, Ceramic
Destructive Entry No

Known Issues

High chance of leakage on IO board

Causes

  • C504 installed backwards on all revisions due to incorrect board markings. If it hasn't leaked yet, it probably will.

Solutions

  • Replace C504 with a new cap in the correct orientation.
  • Alternatively leave C504 unpopulated, no noticeable change in operation.

Audio is quiet or has uneven stereo levels

Causes

  • Dry capacitors in audio path.

Solutions

  • Replace C254, C255, C261, and C263-C266. Total 7 caps, along the rear edge and rear-right corner of the main board.
  • Capacitor type is not critical here. Ceramics of the same or greater capacitance value can be used but may change the sound slightly.

Video is dark, unstable, or has a visible gradient

Causes

  • Dry capacitors in video path.

Solutions

  • Replace C501, C502 and C533 on the IO board.
  • Higher capacitance value can be used to improve video quality.

Disassembly Notes

Remove screws on the bottom and then knock or pry the top shell sideways to open. Lay the top shell flat in front of the console and unscrew the LED board. Remove the printer bezel and cutter button which are held in loosely.

To access the main board:

  • Remove the black eject lever by unhooking the spring, unscrewing the right end clamp, angling upwards and sliding to the right.
  • Unplug all cables from the right edge of the main board.
  • Unscrew the grounding wire from the printer module.
  • Unscrew the 6 screws holding the shield and main board down, and the 2 screws on the cartridge connector.
  • Remove the shield and lift the board up and towards the rear.

To access the IO board:

  • Unplug the two rearmost IO cables from the main board (CB and CC). The cables cannot be unplugged at the IO board end.
  • Unscrew the printer module's lower 4 screws.
    • If it is still connected to the main board, carefully move it towards the front of the console.
    • If it has been disconnected already, simply lift it out.
  • Unscrew the 4 screws holding the shield and IO board down
  • Remove the shield and slide the board out towards the front.

Ensure the power switch, printer bezel and cutter button are properly aligned when reassembling. The console can be reassembled without the shields and eject lever for testing.
